What happens if the text message I want to send using the SMTP service is longer than 160 characters?
TextAnywhere has an SMTP Service that allows you to send and receive SMS text messages from any application that can send and receive emails.
The SMTP SMS Service has the capability to send extended length messages of up to 918 characters (or 198 characters if you are sending a message using the Unicode character set). Emails are sent to one of our email domains and are then converted to SMS text messages and sent out. This is an ideal service for organisations who wish to send SMS text messages directly from their email platform.
It is worth noting that any SMS text message sent that is longer than 160 characters, you will be charged per 153 characters. This is because the delivering network breaks up a message that is longer than 160 characters in to 153 character chunks before sending each chunk independently to the handset.
The handset will then receive the multiple chunks of the message and will join them together, displaying the single, extra length original message on the handset’s display.
